Description
Photograph of Robert Goddard with circular vacuum tube used to prove rocket efficiency greater in vacuum than in air, 1916 (from Esther Goddard's annotation). This photograph appears in Robert Goddard's landmark 1919 paper "A Method of Reaching Extreme Altitudes". That paper can also be located in this collection, in the 3-volume set The Papers of Robert H. Goddard.
'The Goddard Rocket Researches: A Photographic Record' is an annotated photo album covering Robert H. Goddard's work and experimentation with rocketry. It was assembled and curated by Esther Goddard sometime after her husband's passing in 1945. Additionally, almost all of the photographs were taken by Esther herself. This photograph was not taken by Esther as she and Robert did not meet until 1920.
Photographs were scanned at 400dpi.
