The Goddard Rocket Researches: A Photographic Record [Individual Photographs]
Preview
Description
Photograph of Nils Ljungquist (machinist), Charles Mansur (welder), and Albert Kisk (brother-in-law) re-opening the Roswell, New Mexico workshop in September of 1934. This began the second of Robert Goddard's two grant-funded stays in Roswell (the first lasting between 1930 and 1932); this one would last much longer, until 1942. Goddard and his crew did not know how long their time in Roswell would last, as the Guggenheim Foundation grant lasted one year and would continue on an annual basis. Charles Lindbergh's influence with Harry Guggenheim had a significant impact on the long-lasting continuation of Goddard's research. Goddard and his wife Esther were thrilled to be back in Roswell for research. In both The Papers of Robert H. Goddard and this photo album, Esther refers to this 1934-1942 period as "The Second New Mexico Adventure".
'The Goddard Rocket Researches: A Photographic Record' is an annotated photo album covering Robert H. Goddard's work and experimentation with rocketry. It was assembled and curated by Esther Goddard sometime after her husband's passing in 1945. Additionally, almost all of the photographs were taken by Esther herself.
Photographs were scanned at 400dpi.
