Photograph showing the test of April 20, 1927, with parachute attachment and turntable for launching. Goddard developed this much larger rocket model throughout the summer and fall of 1926 after being unable to make marked improvements on the much smaller model that took the historic March 16, 1926 flight. It was ready for testing by April 1927. The rocket was skeletal and held together by fuel piping. The combustion chamber and nozzle were at the bottom while the tanks and pumps were on top. This was the second attempted test with this model. Both tests were unsuccessful -- the igniter failed the first time and a lack of fuel pressure the second time.

'The Goddard Rocket Researches: A Photographic Record' is an annotated photo album covering Robert H. Goddard's work and experimentation with rocketry. It was assembled and curated by Esther Goddard sometime after her husband's passing in 1945. Additionally, almost all of the photographs were taken by Esther herself.
