Abstract
Attention on career cycle literature focuses on the intense difficulties that beginning teachers encounter; however, second-stage teachers remain at risk for attrition and disengagement. Using my own experience taking a sabbatical, this study investigates sabbaticals for K–12 teachers as a potential antidote to plateauing. Currently in my second year back from the sabbatical, I use a combination of documents and reflexive dyadic interviews as data sources to examine the professional impact of the sabbatical.
