Geoffrey Chadsey: The Hysterical Male Body

Publication Date

10-22-2020

Abstract

Geoffrey Chadsey describes himself as “a drawer with a background in photography who mimics painting. My drawings are rendered layerings of male-identified bodies and male-adjacent personas captured from social media, the Internet, print media, and my own archive. My drawings explore an unsettled self as it preens, performs and collapses for an observer, who may be an actual other person, or the mirror known as the selfie.”

Based in NYC, Geoffrey Chadsey is represented by Jack Shainman Gallery. His life-size drawings have been shown internationally for the past twenty years. He has an MFA in photography from the California College of the Arts, works as a photo editor for a medical magazine, and teaches drawing at the School of Visual Arts.
