Heidi Latsky and Donald Lee: Interruptive Movements: Accessing Disruptive Bodies in Dance

Abstract
Heidi Latsky Dance (HLD) is a New York-based integrated dance company that has incorporated performers with disabilities since 2006. Founder Heidi Latskysays her company’s mission is to redefine beauty and virtuosity through performance and discourse, featuring individuals with unique attributes to bring rigorous, passionate, and provocative contemporary dance to diverse audiences. Clearly this message is resonating. The company has toured internationally and received numerous awards, commissions, and residencies. Its current portfolio of live art installations, called ON DISPLAY, has been featured in venues across the world.
HLD performer Donald Lee ’95 is a Clark alumnus, artist, and bilateral amputee dancer. His creative practice explores the casualty of identities and the aesthetics of damage, loss, and wounds. In this talk, he will join Heidi Latsky to discuss inclusivity in dance, disability artistry, and access as a means to drive disruption and create a new space for disabled artists. He also will perform a work in progress, choreographed by Latsky in collaboration with Lee, for debut at Clark University.
