Abstract
Online education has been revolutionized with the arrival of MOOC platforms. These platforms present an number of legal, technical, financial, and scientific issues for universities. This paper aims to explore how universities can most effectively utilize online learning, what impact online learning will have on varies types of universities, the costs and benefits of for-profit versus non-profit online learning platforms, what legal and financial obstacles universities seeking to enter this field face, and what value credentials acquired through these platforms have for students.
