The partition of Ireland

Elvyn Arthur Stoneman, Clark University

Abstract

This dissertation has been written from notes compiled primarily from personal observations in Ireland, interviews with citizens and government officials of both the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland, and from the best material available from government sources or libraries at home and abroad.

There is no attempt to investigate and deal with all the problems of the partition of Ireland, but to study certain political and geographical phases of the boundary separating the Republic and Northern Ireland, some of its effects and present political trends in the light of recent events. The first two chapters provide physical and historical background for subsequent chapters dealing with the boundary and Ireland since partition.
