Docudrama’s blurred boundaries: truth and fiction in Afghani cinema

Abstract

In this essay, I argue that looking at (Siddiq) Barmak’s film (Osama, 2003) through the hybrid construction of docudrama opens up a space to see how its form and content produces non-dominant ways of engaging with, and therefore critiquing, western images of Afghanistan.
