Abstract
This chapter considers how Donald Trump influenced the 2022 Republican primaries. It describes how Republican Party primaries have evolved in recent years, what Trump did in previous primaries, and what tools he had to shape the 2022 primaries. It then considers his endorsements, his campaign rallies, the expenditures of his Super PAC, his efforts to defeat the ten Republican House members who voted for his impeachment in 2021, and Trump's influence on the campaign rhetoric of Republican candidates. Except for the case of pro-impeachment Republicans, there is little evidence that anything Trump did during the 2022 election influenced the election results. However, there is evidence that in many Republican primaries, voters rewarded candidates who associated themselves with Trump while general election voters punished such candidates.
