Into the Great Silences
Earl Clement Davis
What is the nature of worship and why do we do it? This is a question prompted in Earl Davis by a (somewhat cynical) answer from an evangelical minister friend, who quipped that Sunday service was only entertainment. Davis lands on the fact that, despite its wondrous beauty and our natural seeking for truth, that there remain deep mysteries in the world. The purpose of worship is to feed this sense in our individual and community selves.

The Great Experiment in Religion: A Church Without a Creed
Earl Clement Davis
Davis finds the 100th anniversary of Unitarianism to be a church without a creed. The key point is not a question of doctrine so much as a question of the proper method to resolve differences of opinion about doctrine. While Catholicism has an authority, the Pope, he sees Protestantism as moving toward the congregation and sincere individual belief.

Life Has Meaning
Earl Clement Davis
Earl Davis gave two sermons at the Concord New Hampshire Unitarian Church before taking his position there. One was on Sunday October 28, 1923, and then a week later on Sunday November 4, 1923. One of the supplementary files you can download here is the Church flyer for October 1923. His name is featured on page 2.
This is a short sermon outline, and perhaps a job talk for the Concord ministry. With hundreds of thousands of years of evolution behind us, "saturated with spiritual essence", we carry forward. Davis asks "What shall I do to give life meaning? To make it worthwhile?"
