Description
On October 12th, 1966, five months after ground broke for the construction for Clark University's Goddard Library, a convocation was held to commemorate Robert Goddard. U.S Vice President Hubert Humphrey, who was also Chairman of the National Aeronautics and Space Council, was on-hand to dedicate a 300-pound stainless steel and aluminum time capsule.
This capsule, which measures over 10 feet and was built to survive over 500 years underground, is a replica of a 1940 Goddard rocket and contains around 90 items and documents relating to Goddard, the Space Age, contemporary life, and Clark University's history. A tablet commemorating the time capsule's location can be seen in the Academic Commons, located on the 1st floor of the Goddard Library building.
This document is a record, both of the Convocation ceremony in its entirety as well as a complete inventory of the time capsule itself.
