Description

A collection of local newspaper clippings covering Clark University's 1909 Conference on Child Welfare, which took place July 6th through the 10th and featured representatives from twenty-seven types of child welfare organizations.

This conference was part of the university's twentieth anniversary celebrations. All of the 1909 Conference proceedings were originally scheduled for July, but when Sigmund Freud and a number of other invitees had to decline, G. Stanley Hall rescheduled the conference to September. The Conference on Child Welfare portion remained with the original dates.

The materials in this collection reflect the time period in which they were written. Some of these materials contain outdated, biased, and/or offensive ideas, perspectives, and terminology.

These scans were made from a fragile source. While the newspaper clippings themselves remain almost entirely intact and legible, the scrapbook pages are deteriorated in many places.
